Botox Treatment
Procedure - Botox is substance that is
injected into the persons skin to minimize wrinkles and excessive
sweating. It is injected into the muscles using a very fine needle. The
results are not immediate and do require a few treatments to see
maximal results. What botox does is render the muscles inactive and
makes them unable to move, essentially a temporary paralysis. The
wrinkles and lines take about two weeks to disappear. When injected
into sweat glands it stops excessive sweating anywhere on the body.
These treatments can last up to one year but sometimes there
effectiveness begins to wear off at three months.
Duration - the procedure is very quick, the injections can take as little as 5 minutes.
Anesthesia - There is absolutely no anesthesia required for this process.
Hospital Stay - the patient is allowed to leave directly after the procedure.
Risks and side effects - Short term
effects can include headache, respiratory infection, flu, drooping of
the forehead and eyelids as well as nausea. Less common effects are
pain, redness and swelling usually due to the injection itself.
Sometimes there can be bleeding, numbness and muscle weakness. Since
botox does not remain in the body for longer then a week these symptoms
subside rather quickly.
